WSI International Media Internships
Washington Prism, Persian/English Weekly e-publication
Journalism Intern
Description:
The World Security Institute is seeking a journalism intern to primarily file 2 reports per week for an online Persian/English language publication. Washington Prism is a journal of politics, culture and public affairs, published in both Persian and English. The reports are 500 words or less in English, and they include coverage of events in the Washington, DC area, as well as occasional national stories.
Washington Prism is a Farsi-language publication of culture, politics and public affairs for those in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the Farsi-speaking Diaspora, with the aim of bridging cultural and information gaps, and avoiding the governmental rhetoric that often clouds mutual understanding. The publication includes a large number of original articles and interviews in English on its website.
Qualifications:
This is a great opportunity for journalism and English studies students, as our stories are circulated among 3-5 million readers worldwide. The right candidate will be fluent in English (knowledge of Farsi is desirable, but not required), and he or she will possess relevant educational or work experience.
The internship is open to recent graduates, graduate students, and highly qualified undergraduates with a strong interest in military policy, national security, foreign affairs, and related public policy issues who are willing to undertake some small administrative tasks.
Compensation:
Interns will receive $1,000 stipend per month, based on 40 hours per week. In some cases by pre-arrangement, interns may earn academic credit. Interns are responsible for their own housing.
Deadline:
The position is available immediately until filled. Priority will be given to applicants who apply before Feb. 15, 2006.
To apply:
Please send a cover letter describing your background and interest, a resume, and a brief (less than 3 pages) writing sample in English to:
