Arab Insight Fall 2007: "Do We Hate America?"
28 August 2007
The Arab world responds to a critical question for US-Arab relations in the fall issue of Arab Insight: "Do We Hate America?" Read the answer from informed Arab experts in the second issue of Arab Insight.
Not surprisingly, the wake of September 11, 2001, caused questions regarding the US-Arab relationship to arise, most notably, many Americans began to wonder: Why do they hate us? However, the question is misleading and is based on the idea that Arabs paint the American people and the US government in the same stroke -- the truth, in fact, is much different.
In response to this question, Why do they hate us? Arab authors in the fall 2007 Arab Insight the recently launched journal which brings the voices of Arab scholars to Washington respond by exploring their own question: Do we hate America ? The scholars responses indicate that there is a clear distinction in Arab public opinion between Americans on the one hand, and the U.S. government on the other.
Through detailed studies dissecting Arab public opinion and media as well as more in-depth discussion of sources of anti-Americanism, this issue of Arab Insight allows Western readers to reverse their roles, enter the minds and hearts of Arabs and gain unprecedented insight into both of the above questions.
