Arab Insight Fall 2008: Memo to the Next American President

22 October 2008

November's landmark election holds the potential to signify a turning point in the dynamic relationship between the United States and the Arab world. The fifth edition of Arab Insight investigates the political transition from controversial strategies employed in the Bush administration's war on terror to a new presidency, asking what actions from the next American administration would best serve Arab-American relations. In this edition, Arab Insight writers scrutinize the successes and failures of the current White House, speculating on how a new administration can learn from past policy missteps to improve troubled relations with the Arab world. While these articles speak to regional and even global trends, they also address heterogeneous attitudes within the Arab world, its disparate political, social and economic climates, and the different ways in which change could emerge in the Arab-American dynamic.
