The Monterey Bay Chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA and the United Nations Club of the Monterey Institute of International Studies present "Dangerous Things in Small Packages: Child Soldiers and Small Arms," featuring: Rachel Stohl, Senior Analyst, Center for Defense Information of Washington, D.C.

Friday evening, October 27, 2006, at 7:00 p.m.

Irvine Auditorium of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, 499 Pierce at Jefferson Streets in downtown Monterey, Calif.

Admission is free. Arrive early to assure a seat. A meet-the-speaker dessert reception will follow the program.

This is a "The People Speak" event. "The People Speak" is a nationwide effort to bring American communities together to discuss the role of the United States in world affairs. It is coordinated by the United Nations Foundation, and co-sponsored by many diverse national organizations, including the League of Women Voters, UNA-USA, the World Affairs Councils of America, the National Peace Corps Association, Brookings Institution, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and others.

About Rachel Stohl:

Stohl has written and spoken widely on the subject of child soldiers, as well as on international arms trade, small arms and light weapons, landmines, and the United Nations. She is currently a senior analyst at the Center for Defense Information in Washington, D.C., and previously worked at the UN Center for Disarmament Affairs in New York and the Program for Arms Control, Disarmament and Conversion, in Monterey. She has written on these topics for the Christian Science Monitor, International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times and various technical journals, and is a frequent guest on National Public Radio, Voice of America and other radio outlets. Ms. Stohl also teaches at Georgetown University and has lectured at many other universities, and conducted seminars at the US Congress and at various US military facilities. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
