WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Debating the most critical issue on Capitol Hill and in the nation, on Feb. 28, five experienced analysts and practitioners will present their views on the future of Iraq, directed at a more realistic understanding of our options.
 
Moderated by Alton Frye, the presidential senior fellow emeritus at the Council on Foreign Relations, questions will address, among other topics, the "troop surge," recent resolutions put forward by the Senate and House, withdrawal timetables, and the overall future for Iraq and U.S. policy in the region.
 
PANELISTS: 

  • Dr. Ted Galen Carpenter, vice president for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, has written and spoken extensively on the war in Iraq, including recently providing testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
  • Helle Dale, deputy director for the Davis Institute for International Studies and director of the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation, has written extensively on foreign policy, defense and national security and is a former editor of the Washington Times editorial page.
  • Col. Douglas A. Macgregor, U.S. Army (ret.), is the author of three books on military affairs and a frequent commentator on radio and television. His consulting firm, Glenside Analysis, works with a variety of clients around the world. He has written extensively on the Iraq war for CDI's Straus Military Reform Project.
  • Frank Gaffney, president of the Center for Security Policy and a syndicated columnist, was assistant secretary of defense for international security policy under President Reagan and has served in numerous other senior posts in government.
  • Frank Anderson served 27 years at the CIA, in many senior posts including chief of the Near East Division. He now runs a consulting practice that focuses on the Middle East.
