PULITZER CENTER ON CRISIS REPORTING

The Institute’s Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, established in 2006, offers travel grants to journalists, photographers and filmmakers to promote more extensive coverage of international affairs in the American media. The Center dispatches grantees around the world, with a focus on topics that have been under-reported, mis-reported – or not reported at all.

The Pulitzer Center is a bold initiative, true to its sponsorship by a family whose name for more than a century has been a watchword for journalistic integrity, responsibility and courage. From Teapot Dome through the civil rights struggle, Vietnam and the run-up to the Iraq war, the Pulitzers have stood for a “drastically independent” journalism that would “never be satisfied with merely printing news.” The Center’s mission is to be a model for journalistic practice, to highlight differing perspectives on emerging conflicts, to engage the broadest possible audience, and to foster debate on America’s role in the world.

The Center welcomes proposals for enterprising reporting throughout the world. It has already sponsored projects on five continents that have appeared in major American newspapers, television, radio and the Internet.
