Mark Burgess

Mark Burgess is the director of the World Security Institute's Brussels office. Before heading the Brussels office, he directed the terrorism project at the Washington, D.C., office of the Center for Defense Information.
Burgess received his M.A. in war studies from King's College, London, and also holds a joint B.A. in war studies and media and communication studies.
While his main research area is the study of terrorism, Burgess has also written and spoken extensively on a variety of other security issues, including peacekeeping and the war in Iraq, and has been published and quoted in a wide range of U.S. and international outlets. His latest publications are the entries on "Peacekeeping," "The War on Terrorism," and "Homeland Security" in the newly released Encyclopedia of War and American Society (Sage Publications, 2006).
