Tomas Valasek is the director of the Brussels office. Mr. Valasek is the editor and co-author of “The ‘Easternization’ of Europe’s Security Policy" (IVO-CDI, September 2004) and “Growing Pains: The Debate on the Next Round of NATO Enlargement” (CDI, June 2002). He has contributed articles to numerous newspapers and journals, including The Wall Street Journal, Jane’s Defence Weekly and Defense News. Mr. Valasek is also a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London.

Before heading the Brussels office, Mr. Valasek worked as senior European analyst in the Washington, DC office of the Center for Defense Information. He received his MA in International Affairs from the George Washington University and a BA in journalism from the University of Georgia; he also studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia; the University of Grenoble, France; and the University of Antwerp, Belgium.

Mr. Valasek is a native of Slovakia and has published in leading national newspapers and magazines such as SME and Domino Fórum. He serves on the editorial board of Bezpečnostné analýzy (Security Analyses), works as a defense and foreign policy analyst for the Czech language edition of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and guest-lectures at the Comenius University in Bratislava.
